Mrs. Fern Katz was elected to the Board of Education in 2005. A retired math teacher, Mrs. Katz taught for two years in Birmingham Public Schools and for 27 years in the Oak Park Schools. She was an officer in the Oak Park Federation of Teachers. She has two grown children. A resident since 1981, she holds BA and MEd degrees from Wayne State University. A community activist, Mrs. Katz has been involved in many civic causes as well as pro-public education organizations. In 2001 she received the "Heart of Gold" award from the United Way of Southeastern Michigan.
Mrs. Miller was first elected to the Board of Education in 1993 and again in 1997. In December 2004 she was appointed to fill the vacancy and was elected to fill the remaining two years of that term in May 2005. Mrs. Miller was re-elected to the Board in 2007.She has lived in the school district for since 1976. Mrs. Miller has two daughters who graduated from Southfield-Lathrup High School. She held numerous leadership positions in the school parent organizations at McIntyre, Birney and S-LHS. Additionally, she served on numerous Board of Education special committees. Her service to the district was recognized in 1994 when she was honored with the Nancy Widman Award. Mrs. Miller also severs as a trustee of the Southfield Community Foundation.She co-owns and operates a cleaning service company.

Mr. Williams was appointed to fill the vacancy on the board due to the resignation of Connie Williams. Mr. Rance Williams was sworn in November 10, 2009, and will serve until December 31, 2010.
